Medusa, the tragic figure of Greek mythology. Tragic in that she was cursed by the Gods to be a monster that turned people to stone by her gaze. Her curse was thanks to an error in judgement on her part, and not because she was truly a monster with evil intentions. Check out the myth of Medusa, it's very interesting reading! Such a sad, reviled character, but really no more than an ordinary being with some serious social problems! The model for this drawing, Kym, always gave me the impression that behind her lovely, calm exterior was something dark, sad and imprisoning. I thought her possibly tragic 'other side' would come across in this drawing, so we shot a couple of reference photos and here is the result.

A1-sized pencil drawing, many weeks in the making but done with the deepest of love for the project.

Heya Miss Cougars!

It was a long time. I mean, a looooong time :) I think I lost my eyesight twice working on this one, needing lots of long breaks and staring into infinity for hours to get it back. I'd say it was at least three months of actual pencil work, not including the organizing and shooting the original reference, plotting out the work, wrangling snakes, etc. :) A labour or love!
:iconcougars:

Bleh.

Can't remember for sure, but it was months :) Wasn't a full-time job, as I became easily burned out due to the size of it, so I would draw an hour or two per day, with breaks of several days throughout.
:iconphirebrand:
impressive!

detail and emotion are evident, and I can see your love o f the subject - very nicely done. :)
